Defiance by Ito-Saith-Webb Defiance by Ito-Saith-Webb
Near the end of days she alone stood against the threat of the old but was not alone because all over the world at that one moment had their thoughts with her giving her the power to defy this horrible threat.

Well this is my final entry for the contest and I think this is some of my best work, even then I wish I had a few more days to work on it.

PS CS4/ Intous 3 tablet 15+ hours

Hope you like it.

Fantastic! So much action here. I love the color scheme, the fury of the water and of course Cthulhu up there. Rage against the heavens for sure! :)

I base my work from the discriptions from the books I read and Lovecraft wrote those way before there was even TV.

Wow, I def wasn't insinuating that you ripped it off! It just struck me as an Ood with the mouth/tentacles. Ever seen one?

Yup actually I have but I have reason to suspect they were Lovecract inspired in the first place. Actually most stuff you see that has anything to do with horror science fiction and psycological maddness is lovecraft inspired. He is slowly making a comeback.

Could you possibly suggest some books for me?
My reading list consists of Photoshop CS3 for Dummies, Illustrator CS4 for Dummies, and Advanced Photoshop Magazine, which I doubt are any help :p

Well I would suggest any books that cover rendering and perspective. For drawing the human form I would suggest any books by Giovanni Civardi.

I'm going to buy a giovanni civardi book tonight! But are there any specific rendering ones you would suggest?

Yes, sometimes I use corel painter. But I also render sometimes with a good old fashion pen or pencil.

I actually find it kinda strange that the girl got some invisible clothes though, haha.

Very awesome Lovecraftian horror. I really like the contrast between it and the girl, similar sort of pose but totally different feel.

I really like the movement and the color scheme of this piece. The glowy-dark light is very effective at creating the mood. I especially like the waves and the creature's claws.

Things that could use improvement:
-maybe more sharpness and definition throughout (although I know this is just a matter of spending more time and effort on a piece, so as long as the mood is right it doesn't really matter, still it's always nice to see something sharp and polished.)
-The monster's face seems a bit off to me... I dunno, maybe I just don't like faces like that.

There's alot of competition with this genre of work - there's great stuff, then there's mediocre stuff. But I actually like this, the woman on the bottom left was a beautiful touch. Creates perspective and fear.

Ya there is a lot of stuff out there that is awesome work and I am not saying that my work is awesome but I don't think it is mediocre as well. I would be surprised and pretty darn happy if I even got 3rd place but even if I didn't I still feel good about it. If I didn't give it an honest shot then I would probably regret it and I don't want that in my life.

Most competitions are bullshit, though. Art = acquired taste. There's alot of Daily Deviations I look at and think 'what in the hell', then stumble on a artist who's brilliant but has minimum exposure. I think your gallery is really diverse and defined - you have a aesthetic no one can replicate. If I saw one of your images on the net, without creditation, I'd think 'hey that's King-Rastel's' bla bla. Even if you come 500th place, I think your talented as hell.

Thanks, I have been told that I have a certain style or look to my work but it is hard to define. I expect that look will continue to evolve and change over time as my skill progress but it should still be me.
